A perfect smile doesn’t always happen all by itself. Sometimes it needs a nudge in the right direction. Early detection of developing orthodontic issues in children allows us to get kids off to a great start with their oral health.

A Comprehensive Approach to Children's Orthodontics

At South Surrey Smiles, aesthetics is not the only thing we are good at, function is #1 and we want to make sure that your child is set up to keep their teeth for their entire lifetime.

Timing is very important in orthodontics; by joining Cole's Club, your child will receive early screenings. Most of these appointments will end up being no more than some free advice. However, if your child does need treatment, catching issues early may help save them from more serious orthodontic complications.

We take a current approach to orthodontics for children, based primarily on monitoring growth and development. We intervene when early proactive treatment can serve to prevent the extraction of permanent teeth or surgery later on. Usually in cases where the child has a narrow upper jaw, a crossbite, or when adult teeth are being blocked from growing into position properly.

Early orthodontic evaluation and treatment can help address many of the common oral problems that children face as they grow up – including speech and eating issues, snoring, airway troubles, teeth grinding, and thumb sucking.

At our Surrey orthodontic clinic, we offer jaw growth guidance as well as Invisalign First clear aligners and traditional braces for our young patients.

When Should My Child Start Treatment?

Children should visit the orthodontist for the first time before the age of 7 for an evaluation. This visit will give us an opportunity to determine whether orthodontic treatment could benefit your child's oral development now or in the future.

If immediate treatment is required, we'll create a personalized treatment plan and get the ball rolling. If not, we offer free assessment appointments every six to 12 months until your child is ready for Invisalign.

Cole’s Club

At South Surrey Smiles, we strive to make your orthodontic journey both enjoyable and engaging!

If you're not yet ready to start treatment, we welcome you to become a part of Cole’s Club. Beyond achieving a beautiful, healthy smile, members have the opportunity to accumulate reward points and even meet Cole – our beloved CEP (Chief Executive Puppy).

Cole joined South Surrey Smiles in 2022 and is an integral part of the South Surrey Smiles team. You might see Cole in the office visiting and assisting Dr. Williams during growth guidance exams for our younger patients. He will shake a paw for treats and loves to run after the ball in between patients. When not in the office, you can find Cole living his best life at the beach or with his friends at the dog park.

Just between us... Cole visits the office on Thursdays.
